Magnetism has been part of my family’s work since 1969. As the daughter of Dr. Ralph U. Sierra, I grew up surrounded by conversations, observations, writings, and a sincere respect for the role magnetic fields may play in personal wellness.

My father worked closely with Albert Roy Davis during an early period of exploration in biomagnetism. Their collaboration, including The Anatomy of Biomagnetism, remains an important part of the legacy that continues to inspire my own commitment to this field.
Over the years, I have worked with static magnets and pulsed electromagnetic field technology, commonly known as PEMF. My foundation began with static biomagnetism: understanding magnetic polarity, selecting appropriate gauss strength, and considering thoughtful placement when using body magnets, magnetic jewelry, wraps, and supports.
Today, PEMF is receiving growing attention. It raises an important question: what happens when a static magnetic field and a pulsed magnetic field are considered together?
Two Different Types of Fields
A static magnet creates a steady magnetic field. Its polarity, field strength, distance from the body, magnet size, and placement all matter.
PEMF, by contrast, uses a time-varying electromagnetic field. Because it changes over time, it can induce electrical effects in tissue. PEMF has a history of research in certain orthopedic applications, but results still depend on the exact waveform, intensity, frequency, duration, placement, and health question being studied. Read a systematic review update on PEMF and bone fractures.
These are not identical approaches. One is a steady field; the other is a changing field. When used together, they create a combined magnetic environment. That does not automatically mean “more is better,” but it does create a worthwhile scientific question: can a carefully placed static field influence the biological environment during PEMF exposure?
What Research Is Exploring
The answer is not yet complete, but research has begun to examine related combinations.
A review of electromagnetic fields and bone remodeling describes rabbit research combining permanent NdFeB magnetic intramedullary implants with PEMF exposure. This is an experimental implant setting, not a human clinical trial of wearable magnets used alongside a consumer PEMF device. It offers a starting point for further research, not proof that everyday combinations produce the same effects. Read the review’s discussion of combined magnetic fields.
Another line of laboratory and animal research examines PEMF with biomaterials that incorporate magnetic components, including magnetic hydrogels. Published work includes a rabbit articular-cartilage defect study involving PEMF and magnetic nano-hydrogel. This is tissue-engineering research, not a model for wearing a magnetic support during PEMF, but it shows that investigators are exploring how magnetic materials and pulsed fields may interact. Read the rabbit cartilage and magnetic nano-hydrogel study.
Researchers have also studied PEMF in cell and tissue models related to cartilage and connective tissue. For example, laboratory work has found changes in cartilage-related matrix production and differentiation markers under particular PEMF protocols. These results are encouraging for research, while also reminding us that parameters matter: not every field design produces the same response. Read the laboratory study on PEMF and cartilage-related cell responses.
Why Details Matter
With magnetic wellness products, a label that says “magnet” tells only part of the story. Polarity, gauss strength, magnet design, distance from the body, orientation, and placement all shape the field a person actually experiences.
The same principle applies to PEMF. Frequency, waveform, intensity, session length, coil design, and location of use may all affect the exposure. Research does not support treating all magnets or all PEMF devices as interchangeable. A systematic review update of clinical trials in acute fractures found no significant improvement in bone healing in the included studies, an important reminder that promising laboratory findings do not necessarily translate into clinical benefit. Read the systematic review update.
For that reason, I believe the future is not simply about stronger fields. It is about more thoughtful fields: understanding what is being used, why it is being used, and how the configuration is chosen.
My Perspective: More Than Forty Years of Clinical Experience
This story is not only about my personal wellness routine. It also draws on more than forty years of working with patients since our clinic began, the observations we have made along the way, and the technologies I discuss in my book, Beyond the Power of the Magnet (2025). That history has shaped my conviction and my commitment to continuing this work.
The historical photograph featured with this article represents the kind of clinical setup we used through the 1980s, 1990s, and into the 2000s. Its background has been digitally cleaned for presentation. For our practice, it recalls an earlier chapter, before home-use PEMF systems became part of the options we explored. As equipment evolved and options for home use and other practitioners expanded, we continued learning and adapting. We have been part of that journey, not simply observers of a new trend.
Working with patients over the decades has taught me that people deserve more than products chosen by appearance or marketing claims. They deserve clear information about polarity, field strength, comfort, placement, intended use, and practical precautions.
That is why I created Dr. Sierra Magnets in 2017. The brand reflects decades of experience in static biomagnetism and a commitment to helping people make informed personal wellness choices. I personally select products with attention to these details, including verified polarity and practical orientation guidance.
Health Magnetic Store & More (HMS) has been another way to put that commitment into practice: serving people by bringing them the “right” products, thoughtfully selected with attention to their intended use, quality, and practical details. From Dr. Sierra Magnets to PEMF equipment, our purpose is to connect people with clear information and carefully considered options for their wellness journey. As technology evolves, that spirit of service remains at the heart of HMS.
Our journey with KLOUD began in 2022, when we purchased our first unit. But attending the Orlando Academy in March 2026 was a turning point for my husband, Dr. Jorge Jarrot, and me. Learning firsthand deepened my appreciation for this technology and left me eager to keep exploring. We even purchased our personal unit. I knew I wanted to return and bring my son, Adrian, so that the learning, and the legacy, could continue with the next generation. In October 2026, we did just that and attended our second Orlando Academy.
CENTROPIX’s invitation to “Be the change” and join its “Global Wellness Revolution” resonated with us. The opportunity to learn about its product line and share that knowledge with others felt connected to our own commitment to service and continued learning. That is why we joined the movement: to keep evolving while carrying our family’s legacy forward. You can also join the movement.

For me, evolving does not mean leaving my roots behind. My father’s work belongs to an earlier chapter of biomagnetism, and technologies like KLOUD are part of the chapter I am exploring today. I continue to use static magnets as part of my own wellness routine, alongside PEMF. My faith in the work that shaped my life remains strong, even as I stay open to new ideas.
Over the past couple of years, I have personally felt benefits that make this journey meaningful to me. Together with decades of clinical observations, that experience is why I encourage people interested in using static magnets alongside PEMF to explore that approach with a qualified healthcare professional and follow the safety instructions for their specific products and devices. My conviction comes from years of involvement, but it is not a guarantee of an individual result or proof of every advertised benefit.
Throughout this evolution, our purpose has remained the same: to offer thoughtful, noninvasive options that support people's wellbeing, with attention to individual needs, suitability, and safety.
The history of biomagnetism is still being written. My father’s generation helped keep curiosity alive when magnetic wellness received far less attention. Today, new PEMF research and bioengineering studies are expanding the questions scientists can ask. I welcome that evolution, not as a reason to discard the value people find in static magnets, but as an opportunity to understand magnetic fields with greater care and precision.
A Responsible Path Forward
Personal experience and decades of clinical observations can be meaningful, but they are not the same as controlled clinical evidence of a specific medical outcome. Likewise, a laboratory or animal study can offer a scientific rationale, but it does not automatically establish what will happen for every person.
The most responsible approach is to hold both ideas at once: remain open to innovation while staying honest about what research has and has not yet established. Static magnets and PEMF are different modalities. Their combination is an emerging area of inquiry, especially when researchers carefully define the fields, materials, placement, and outcomes they are studying.
For me, this is not merely a scientific topic. It is part of a family legacy, a lifelong field of learning, and an ongoing commitment to share biomagnetic wellness with care, clarity, and respect. With Adrian joining us in that learning, we keep going and going, carrying our roots forward while making room for what comes next.
Dr. Sierra Magnets products are intended for personal wellness use. Individual experiences vary. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease and are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
